Creating this 150 x 250cm piece was a true challenge but exhibiting it at Khawlah Art Gallery in Dubai’s Design District made it worthwhile. Opening night buzzed with artists, friends, art collectors, and appreciators, and I was honored to showcase alongside talented locals Sara Alharbali and Misq. Our pieces harmonized beautifully, making for a successful and memorable exhibition.
Octadic is part of a series exploring the linguistic marvels and kinetic typography in the Holy Quran. Set against an expressive alcohol ink background, Octadicshowcases the Arabic letter “Meem” in verse 48, Chapter Hud. Remarkably, three consecutive words in this verse create a continuous “M” sound, pronounced as “umamim mimmam ma'ak.” While these words contain other letters, only the “M” sound is vocalized. Though the words feature five “Meems” in text, correct pronunciation yields eight, represented in Octadic by eight Arabic “Meems.”
